What Botox® Cosmetic Does
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple, non-surgical treatment administered here at
Vitality Medispa and Wellness Center of Seattle that can temporarily smooth
moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people from 18 to 65 years
of age. Botox will also smooth the areas of the forehead, crow's feet,
Marionette lines (corner of the mouth to the jawline), and bunny scrunch lines
on the nasal bridge. Botox is the only treatment of its type approved by the
Food and Drug Administration (FDA). BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein
produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of
the muscles that cause those frown lines between the brows that form over
time.
Who is a candidate?
Individuals with expression lines who desire those lines to be softened and
those who desire a more youthful appearance. Botox is not recommended for women
who are pregnant or are nursing.
What other cosmetic treatments may be combined with Botox?
Aging of the face has 3 components: Descent, Deflation and Deterioration.
Fine lines and wrinkles are part of the deterioration of the skin. One of the
most significant ways to address the aging face is to combine treatments that
address each of these conditions. Karen creates a customized program for
each client during your one hour complimentary consultation. Possible
recommendations include dermal fillers such as Restylane, Juverderm to
restore lost volume.
How long does it take?
This procedure takes about 15 minutes to perform. Most clients return to
work immediately after treatment. As with any injectable, there is a small risk
of slight bruising that will disappear quickly and can be camouflaged with
make-up but is rare with Botox injections.
Does it hurt?
Typically no anesthetic is needed for Botox injections. Having said that,
your comfort and experience is of the utmost importance to us. Numbing cream,
ice and other options are available should you find you are sensitive to
injections.
What is the cost?
The cost of Botox is described as a per unit price and is $12.00 per unit,
everyday!
How long will the results last?
It takes 3-14 days for the Botox to take effect. Results generally last
between 3-6 months. As you notice the effects of the Botox wearing off call us
and schedule your next appointment. When you use Botox on a regular basis and
not give the muscles the opportunity to become strong again, the results will
begin to last longer and longer. We offer Botox treatments Tuesday through
Saturday and can often accommodate you on the same day that you call.
Xeomin
Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA), made by Merz Pharmaceuticals, is approved by
the US FDA for the treatment of adults with cervical dystonia or blepharospasm.
IncobotulinumtoxinA is made from the bacteria that causes botulism. Botulinum
toxin blocks nerve activity in the muscles, causing a temporary reduction in
muscle activity.
FDA approval of XEOMIN, was based on the results of two U.S. clinical
trials. A study cited in the Journal of Neurological Sciences on the
efficacy and safety of XEOMIN found it showed “non-inferiority” to Botox when
used in the same doses to treat cervical dystonia. It concluded that XEOMIN is a
safe and effective treatment for the disorder.
Xeomin is not yet approved for any cosmetic indications. By contrast, other
drugs in this category, including Botox and Dysport, do have FDA approval for
the treatment of facial wrinkles. Now that Xeomin is available and FDA approved,
doctors can use it off-label to treat the same facial lines treated by Botox and
Dysport, including frown lines, crow's feet and forehead wrinkles.
Worldwide, more than 84,000 people have been treated with Xeomin injections.
The U.S. is actually the 20th country to approve this new drug. It will be
available in 50-unit and 100-unit vials.

Glycolic and TCA Peels: Chemical Skin Peels:
